Taught by Artemis Yoga guest instructor and public school teacher, Tracy Affonso, this unique workshop explores yoga and mindfulness, along with the book A Handful of Quiet: Happiness in Four Pebbles by Thich Nhat Hanh.
On the first page of this book, Thich Nhat Hanh writes he "invented this pebble practice as a tangible way for children and families to return to their breathing and their bodies and connect with the world around them." Tracy will guide participants through child-friendly family yoga and mindfulness exercises based on this wonderful book, and the work of Thich Nhat Hanh, inspired by the natural wonders we find on the farm.
Here's how it works!
Come to the Waltham Fields Community Farm for a slow walk along the woodland path with Education Director, Jessica Herwick. Search for and collect the four pebbles that speak to you.
Then join Tracey in the Learning Garden for a guided introductory yoga and meditation session designed especially for youth and their families! Participants will use their choosen pebbles, with the book as a guide, to participate in a Yoga session incorporating themes of nature as well as mindfulness practices that children and families will be able to apply beyond this workshop afternoon.
Participants will go home with their pebbles and stones, and a copy of the book to continue exploring after the workshop ends.
*Participants are asked to wear masks and practice social distancing during this session.
*More about our COVID safety practices and protocols while on the farm and in the Learning Garden can be found HERE.
* If you have a yoga mat, GREAT! Bring it along. If you do not have a mat, you can bring an outdoor blanket or large beach towel for this session.
