Waltham Fields Community Farm (WFCF) seeks an Equipment & Fields Caretaker for the 2026 season. WFCF is a non-profit organization in its 31st year running a mixed vegetable farm & educational and food access programs just outside of Boston. We adhere strictly to organic methods and manage 11 acres of farmland. The Equipment Manager maintains and repairs tractors, trucks and other farm equipment, mows and weed whacks around the farm and supports the farm staff with other repair work as needed.
Position Overview:
The Equipment & Fields Caretaker is primarily responsible for the repair and maintenance of tractors, implements, mowers, vehicles and other farm equipment and mowing/grass trimming around the farm as needed. Good communication and listening skills and willingness to work cooperatively with other farmers is a must. Applicants should be able to sustain focus through repetitive tasks with an upbeat and positive attitude, and be prepared to do strenuous physical work in all weather conditions.
Responsibilities:

Perform routine maintenance and repairs to tractors, mowers, and other equipment,

Coordinate repairs with mobile mechanic or tractor service shop as necessary,

Maintain appropriate tools and supplies for equipment maintenance,

Create a system for updating equipment maintenance logs for tractors and other appropriate equipment,

Mow and trim grass on the farm as needed,

Participate in weekly farm staff logistics meetings and morning crew meetings.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

At least 2 years experience operating, repairing and maintaining tractors, mowers or similar outdoor power equipment.

Ability to lift 50 lbs and spend up to 7 hours per day standing or kneeling, and as necessary to perform the duties of the job.

Able to prioritize workload and have flexibility as work demands change.

Welding experience preferred but not required.

Must have a valid MA driver’s license.

Active learner, critical thinker, with strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.

Self-starter, able to work independently and as a team.

Alignment and commitment to WFCF’s mission with an interest in local sustainable agriculture, food access, and education.

Very strong organizational skills and ability to manage more than one task at a time in a focused manner.

Compensation:
$25/hour plus produce from the farm. Staff receive a 20% discount at our farm store.
Schedule:
April through October, Monday through Friday, 20 hours per week.
