On December 19, the Committee as a Whole unanimously voted in favor of a plan to limit access to the farm and to many acres of nutrient rich soil, all of WFCF’s greenhouses and equipment storage sheds, their chicken coop, Learning Garden and program spaces for children’s programs, to close two of the three entrances to the 240 Beaver Street site to facilitate environmental remediation at the furthest southern point of the site.

  • Without these essential operational and educational spaces, WFCF’s current operations on the site will cease to exist.
  • The thousands of pounds of locally and sustainably grown produce provided every year to a myriad of community organizations and Waltham citizens will cease to exist.
  • Hundreds of hours of educational and enrichment time for students will cease to exist.
  • Access for many local gardeners to seedlings for the home and community gardens will cease.

WFCF is firmly rooted in its commitment to the soil which it has tended, improved and which it provides access to thousands annually.

If WFCF’s staff, community, nutrient rich food, farm stand, outreach and enrichment programs mean something to you, know it will cease to exist. Unless you table the matter, 2023 will be the first year without food production by WFCF in nearly three decades and that won’t change in 2024 or at any point thereafter.

WFCF has been engaged in active advocacy for stability due to the transfer of ownership of the land and buildings at 240 Beaver Street for more than 4 years!

This historic farm land and its prime agricultural soil which feeds and educates thousands annually through WFCF programs must remain intact and not subdivided and parceled for alternative uses by the City.

Your action on December 27, as a Waltham City Councillor, is vital!

Vote NO or vote to table the matter for at least a month, allowing vital time to mitigate circumstances that will end WFCF’s programs, community resources and vital nourishment that serves Waltham residents.
