2011 WFCF Adult Workshops!

We had such a great response to our adult workshop series last year that we are coming back with more exciting programs! Here is a preview of some of the workshops that we have planned:

Organic Gardening Workshop

Tuesdays, March 1st-22nd, 6:00-7:30pm:

Join our seasoned farmer, Amanda Cather, in both discussion and hands-on activities pertaining to fertility, pest and disease management, variety selection, and seed starting/greenhouse management. Whether you have a community garden plot, a few raised beds, an extensive home garden, or are interested in starting a garden, this workshop is for you!

Workshop sessions will also feature guest speakers focusing on topics such as composting and container gardening and will end with a field trip to see a fabulous example of a home gardening vision that has become a reality!

Farm Wellness Retreat

April 22nd-24th

Celebrate spring with the Farm Wellness team and Grace Jull, founder of Farm Wellness Retreats and senior wellness instructor at Kripalu Center. Through simple and nourishing breathing, movement, cooking and meditative farm tasks, you will enliven your connection to self, others and to the web of life.  This retreat is a culmination of a training for educators from around the country, and a rich chance to reflect, renew and be inspired.

Farm-Fresh Cooking w JJ Gonson in Oct.

Cooking in October with JJ Gonson of Cuisine en Locale! Self described as "personal chef, a mom of two, a little bit rock and roll, and a food activist," JJ Gonson and her crew are doing all kinds of amazing things related to local food in the Greater Boston area including a series of One Night Culinary Events (O.N.C.E.) which are "elaborate, multi-course, locavore, and themed dinner parties."  Check out the Cuisine en Locale blog for info on upcoming ONCE events and stay tuned for the exact date of her cooking workshop on the farm!

Plans are also in the works for more workshops on pickling, jam-making, farm crafts and more!  For a complete list of WFCF programs for 2011, be on the lookout for our 2011 Program Calendar which will be posted on our website by March 1st!

Picadilly Farm Partnership Allows for Increased Waltham Fields CSA Shares in 2011!

Over the past few years, demand for Waltham Fields Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) shares has grown quickly.  We are lucky to be able to offer an on-farm CSA pickup and pick-your-own experience only 10 miles from downtown Boston.   Thanks to a new partnership with our friends Bruce and Jenny Wooster at Picadilly Farm, we are able to offer at least 100 additional Waltham Fields CSA shares to our farm friends in 2011.  Bruce and Jenny already grow certified organic produce for 500 CSA shareholders of their own, along with the happy members of the Shared Harvest winter CSA.  They have provided us with fall potatoes and winter squash for the past five seasons.  We are excited to expand our relationship with them, and look forward to a great new adventure in 2011!

We'll be offering our new shares exclusively to our wait list until February 15.  Current members who are not already on the wait list are welcome to get on the list by emailing us at any time.  We are thrilled to be able to offer shares to our entire wait list this January!  Check our website or contact Amanda for more information about our CSA.
