Recipes
Do you have a recipe you'd like to share? It's okay if you've found it on another website, we'll give that site credit! :) Don't be shy -- let us know!

Looking for ideas on how to prepare Farm produce?! We have a wealth of possibilities for you! See our Recipe pages.
Compost at the farm
Did you not quite finish your share from last week and some produce is looking rather... tired? Feel free to bring your "past veggies" to add to our compost pile! Just look for the pile labeled "Add compost here"!

If possible, please bury your scraps and/or cover them with leaves from the nearby leaf pile. And remember no meat scraps, no whole bread loaves. Biodegradable serving-ware from picnics or parties needs staff approval

thymeSo how did the first week go? Were you able to eat up all your veggies?!

Remember that there are many recipe ideas and preparation hints on our Produce information and recipe pages.

If you're baffled by bok choy, confused by chard, or perplexed by peas, look 'em up! We can practically guarantee that this won't be the first week you're offered these particular vegetables, so you may want to do a little reading up if they're new to you.

We're looking forward to seeing you during one of the CSA pickup days this week:
  • Tuesday, June 15 from 3-7 PM
  • Thursday, June 17 from 3-7 PM
  • Saturday, June 19 from 8 AM to 12 noon
What's in the share this week...

carrot rowsPlease note:  this list is prepared the week before you receive your share.  Some guesswork is involved! We do our best to predict which crops will be ready to harvest, but sometimes crops are on the list that are not in the share, and sometimes crops will be in the share even though they're not on the list.
  • Scallions
  • Arugula
  • Garlic Scapes
  • Endive
  • Braising &/or Mustard Greens

  • Chard
  • Spinach
  • Bok Choy
  • Radishes

Need recipe ideas for some of the farm produce listed above!? See the extensive Produce information and recipe pages on our website.

Try this for the arugula: Pasta with Lemon, Creme Fraiche, and Arugula. Need an idea for the Braising/Mustard Greens? Try the Mess o' Greens Salad With Warm Pecan Dressing from www.seasonalchef.com.

Notes from the Field
Introductions all around

As our season begins to ramp up, I'd like to introduce some the faces you'll see around the farm this year.  We have many returning folks and several new folks as well.

The core farm staff has shifted a bit.  As many of you know, Amanda Cather, our farm manager for the last several years had her second child in January, Sadie.  Amanda, Sadie and the rest of her family are all doing well.  Although Amanda is taking a year off from the farm work, she is still very involved with the organization.  Amanda is working as our Special Projects Coordinator this year.  In addition to that, you will find her and Sadie, helping with the Tuesday evening distributions throughout the season.

weeding crewWhile Amanda is taking time with her family, I have stepped in as farm manager for this season.  Erinn Roberts has moved into the assistant farm manager role and is now in her third year at the farm.  Her husband Dan Roberts is with us once again as a vital part of our core staff.  He is officially in his second full year on the farm as an assistant grower.  The newest member of our staff is Amy Cook.  She was a workshare with us two years ago, but is now with us full time as an assistant grower until the end of October.

We are very lucky to have wonderful new and returning distribution coordinators this year.  Natasha and her family return this year to help run Thursday evening distributions.  On Saturday mornings you will recognize Eileen, as she is helping once again with distributions. Anei is new this year and rounds out the Saturday morning distribution team and will be with us throughout the season as well.

Sabine and Jim If you have spent any time in the Perennial Garden, I'm sure you've noticed many new plants and several redesigned garden beds.  Sabine, our Perennial Garden workshare, has been hard at work making the garden look great with weeding, planting and mulching this spring.

I can't tell you how thankful I am to have such a wonderful group of people on the farm this year.  Each and every person mentioned is a delight to work with and be around.  So if you are out volunteering in the fields, doing pick-your-own or picking up your share I hope you take a moment to say "Hi" to one of these folks who are helping make this farm a better place.

For the farm staff,
Andy
