Work Party!  Saturday April 19th and Sunday April 20th, 10AM to 3PM.  Our farmers would love your help building a small pole barn and a walk-in cooler.  Come for as long as you can.  Bring your own water, snacks/lunch, and dress for the weather.  We'll meet you on the farm.  Bring tools if you've got 'em!  Rain date will be Sunday, April 27th.

Hunger Relief Prep

Want to help out with our hunger relief efforts?  Have a little bit of time in the evening?  This year we will be coordinating volunteers to pack up leftover produce after each CSA distribution (Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday nights at 7PM).  The boxed produce will be delivered the next day to emergency food programs.  Email Andy at volunteer@communityfarms.org to let him know you want to help!

Children's Learning Garden

Do you enjoy working with children in out of school settings?  Then consider volunteering with our Children's Learning Garden program to give young visitors to our farm a taste of farm life.  Programs take place weekdays from May through October.  You can volunteer regularly, or for just a few hours.  We're also looking for a CLG Assistant to work with the program throughout the season;  a modest stipend will be provided.  Contact Amanda at farmmanager@communityfarms.org to express your interest.

Volunteer Drop In Hours on the Farm  Come work with our farmers as we get the season off to a great start.  Drop in hours are now Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday, from 9AM to Noon.  No need to tell us you're coming, just meet us at the CSA Shed on the farm.  For more information, check our website:  Volunteer Info

Farmer Training

Notes from the Field
Assistant Grower Jonathan Martinez cleaning out the hoophouse for the spring with volunteer Heidi Strauss and Assistant Farm Manager Andy Scherer.

We always know that spring is truly here when our Assistant Growers arrive for the season.  Erinn Roberts and Jonathan Martinez began their work with us on April 7th, and we are thrilled to have them with us.  Erinn and Jonathan each have experience on other farms and hope to be prepared to manage their own farms by the end of this year.  Amanda Cather, our Farm Manager, will guide their training throughout the season.  During their first week at Waltham Fields, Erinn and Jonathan worked with Amanda to establish their goals for their Farmer Training experience.  They are especially focused on learning more about crop planning, disease and pest identification and management, soil fertility, and tractor use.  They are also both very excited to work with the hundreds of children and adults who will come through the farm this season.  Please help us welcome them to the farm!

Warmly,

From all the staff at Waltham Fields Community Farm:
Meg Coward, Executive Director
Amanda Cather
, Farm Manager
Andy Scherer, Assistant Farm Manager
Jonathan Martinez and Erinn Roberts, Assistant Growers
