Annual Meeting

January 20th, 2008 - Annual Meeting at the Waltham Public Library 1:30 - 4pm Get to know the good people on the slate for our 2008 Board of Directors, vote on the slate if you are a member, and hear a review of our 2007 and our plans for 2008. We'll also be screening the incredible documentary "King Corn" at the meeting.

Chestnut Farms Meat Shares Available at Waltham Fields!
Beginning in January of 2008, we will be partnering with Chestnut Farms in Hardwick to offer sustainably raised local meat shares. Meat shares come in several sizes to suit any household. They can include a range of delicious cuts of beef, lamb, pork and chicken, or choose lamb- or pork-free shares. Shares will be distributed once a month, on the first Sunday of each month at Waltham Fields Community Farm. Visit Chestnut Farms' website for more information.
Bring us your leaves!

Your old leaves will help us make great compost at the farm! Bring leaves loose or bagged in paper bags (no plastic bags, please!). Drive on the farm road just to the left of the field hoop house to the big leaf piles on your left. Please put only leaves in these piles; you can continue to dump household fruit and veggie scraps on the compost piles at the back of the field. Thank you!

Solstice Gathering
Sunday, December 16, 6pm

pine branchJoin our annual winter tradition on the farm! We gather together to welcome in winter and to put the farm to rest. Meet us on the farm at 6PM.

We'll lead everyone in a few different solstice traditions from all over the world. Kids are very welcome!

Bring a branch from an evergreen, a flashlight, and a dessert to share when we gather inside afterward. We'll provide hot drinks.

If the weather is bad, call the farm office to make sure the event is still on: 781-899-2403.

It's so delicate, the light/ And there's so little of it. The dark/ Is huge./ Just delicate needles, the light,/ In an endless night./ And it has such a long way to go/ Through such desolate space./ So let's be gentle with it./ Cherish it./ So it will come again in the morning./ We hope.

- Rolf Jacobsen

Annual Appeal Underway!

Don't forget to send in your donation! We've raised almost $15,000 so far, and have another $10,000 to go to meet our goal.

To donate today, go to the Farm's website.

Our farm office is abuzz with plans for next year. We are eager to set up new opportunities for low-income families to access our food, tailor our 2008 hunger relief donations to the needs of our clients, and expand ourfarm last winter Children's Learning Garden program.

We can only put these great plans into action if we end this year strong! Please consider donating today. Thanks ever so much to those of you who have already given.

Job Opportunities
Help us find some great coworkers!

We have two positions open - one in the office, and one on the farm - and would love your help finding great people to fill them! Both of these jobs begin in 2008. For more information, see our web site. Please forward the information to anyone you know who might be interested. Thanks!

Looking for a great way to volunteer for the farm?
Join the generous and fun-loving folks who pull together our spring fundraiser every year. There are all kinds of jobs big and small, some that you can do on your own at home, and some that are all about getting together with other farm folks. If you are interested in helping out, please join us this coming Wednesday, December 12th for a kick off meeting. To indicate your interest and find out more details about this first meeting, email Julie.
