Volunteer Service

Community Farms Outreach and Waltham Fields Community Farm rely upon volunteer labor to further our mission of reclaiming farmland, relieving hunger in our communities and reconnecting people with the knowledge of sustainable food production. Thousands of hours are donated every year by individuals, families and groups who plant, weed, and harvest vegetables, or help to run our organization.

We encourage both individuals and groups to come help out on the farm.

Individual and Family Volunteers

Drop in hours for farm work vary by the season. Individual volunteers are welcome to meet our staff at the Gathering Spot - a big white tent, located behind the red brick building at the Field Station, at the times below to help plant, transplant, weed, harvest or participate in other farm related tasks. Children of any age are welcome with adult supervision.

Summer Volunteer Drop-In Hours for Families and Individuals are currently...

  • Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Please arrive promptly at 9 am. You may stay up to until noon (it's ok to leave early but we need you to arrive at the beginning for directions). Meet at the "gathering spot - the big white tent" and be ready to work!

We also welcome individual students looking to fulfill community service hours. Please contact the volunteer coordinator, volunteer@communityfarms.org, to set up a volunteer schedule.

Non fieldwork volunteer opportunities are available year round. Please email volunteer@communityfarms.org if you would like to know more about current opportunities.

Group Volunteers

Waltham Fields Community Farms welcomes group volunteers from schools, businesses, religious congregations and other organizations. Groups begin to work on the farm in early May and continue working through mid-October. The tasks that groups perform are specific to the day and also the time of season they visit, but most often include transplanting, weeding, mulching, and harvesting crops, as well as general farm tasks that benefit from lots of hands. If you would like to schedule a group volunteer day at Waltham Fields Community Farm please call the farm office at 781-899-2403 x1 or email: volunteer@communityfarms.org

We also accept school groups for volunteer service-learning opportunities.
